How is Nonylphenol Ethoxylate Produced?

1. Nonylphenol Production
   • Synthesized through the reaction of benzene and propylene oxide.
   • First, benzene is saturated with hydrogen, then propylene oxide is added through alkylation.
2. Addition of Ethylene Oxide
   • The obtained nonylphenol undergoes ethoxylation with ethylene oxide.
   • NPE is obtained by adding ethylene oxide to the hydroxyl group of nonylphenol through this process.
3. Purification
   • After reaction, the product is purified through various methods, and additives are incorporated when necessary.

Due to environmental risks in NPE production processes, many regions have shifted towards alternative surfactant technologies.
